Educational Trips of the Division of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering

2024 Educational trip on the Central Greece Highway E65 in the area of Kalambaka – Agiofyllo (10/10/2024)

On Thursday 10.10.24, an educational trip of the Department of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering (geo.civ.uth.gr) of the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly took place to the Central Greece Highway E65 in the areas of Kalambaka and Agiofyllo.

As part of the trip, we visited completed and under-construction road embankments and ditches as well as a twin road tunnel (cut & cover).

The students as well as the accompanying professors (P. Kallioglou, P. Dakoulas, G. Tsinidis and G. Efremidis) express warm thanks to the company TERNA S.A. for hospitality.

Special thanks to: Maria Giannakopoulou (Geotechnical Engineer), Angelos Golfinos (Technical Geologist) and Eleftherios Tagas (Construction Engineer), employees of the TERNA company for organizing the visit and the extremely interesting presentations to the students.

Also, the professors thank the students for their participation, their exemplary behavior, as well as the enthusiasm and interest they showed.

2024 Educational trip to the Prefecture of Drama (30/5/2024) - (31/5/2024)

We thank the "DEI S.A. (PPC S.A.)" and "FHL Kiriakidis Group" companies for their hospitality.

On 30.05.24 & 31.05.24 a two-day educational excursion of the Division of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering (geo.civ.uth.gr) of the Department of Civil Engineering (civ.uth.gr) of the University of Thessaly took place in the area of the Regional Unit of Drama. During the excursion, we visited:

The Marble Quarry of the FHL Kiriakidis Group company in Volakas, Drama, where we attended a general presentation of the quarry, the mining methods and the methods of organizing and monitoring the quarry site.
The Thesaurus Dam on the Nestos River, where we were given a tour of the dam and the 384MW underground hydroelectric plant downstream of the dam. The field trip was organised within the framework of Greece's activity for the Dam Day (May 29) of the ICOLD European Club (EURCOLD).
